Our Qualifications

Dr. Summers graduated with honors from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology and a minor in Mathematical Sciences. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree, also with honors, from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While at MUSC, Dr. Summers served as the President of the American Student Dental Association and as a delegate to the South Carolina Dental Association, and received scholarships from the South Carolina Dental Association Foundation and the MUSC College of Dental Medicine Annual Fund for his academic achievement and leadership roles.

Dr. Summers received his specialty training in Orthodontics from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He has research experience in several fields including Velocardiofacial and DiGeorge syndromes and practice transitions of orthodontists. He has presented his research to the Southern Association of Orthodontists and is a published author.

Dr. Summers and his clinical staff offer a combined total of nearly 100 years of orthodontic experience. He has successfully completed the first two phases to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and is now board-eligible.

Orthodontics is not part of what we do, it’s all we do.

Our New Patient Visit

You will find our examination process to be thorough and complete. This will include an analysis of facial and skeletal type, assessment of facial growth, and an exam of the bite, alignment of the teeth, health of the soft tissues, and function of the jaw joints and adjacent supporting structures. There will be no discomfort with this exam.

Cosmetic and functional goals are tailored to the specific needs of each patient. All findings and recommendations will be explained in understandable terms and all of your questions will be answered. There will be no charge for your initial visit or for diagnostic records, which are reviewed by Dr. Summers in our office to determine your treatment options.

Our Payment Options

From flexible monthly payments to outside financing, you will find our team eager to arrange a plan that is best for your budget. We do all we can to see that finances do not stand between you and the necessary treatment. Our clearly defined policy assures you that there will be no hidden costs or unpleasant surprises.

Our office is insurance friendly. We file your claims and accept most insurance policies here in the office.

Our Special Touch

While orthodontic emergencies are rare, you will get prompt attention to your needs and concerns.

One full year of supervised retainer wear are included in your treatment. Following this, Dr. Summers will see you as necessary, for as long as you wish. You can take comfort in knowing that Dr. Summers will be here in the years to come should a need arise.

Paperless Information

In our efforts to keep with the forefront of technology, our office offers a "paperless" system. Your medical records and information are now stored in a digital format.

We also offer a check-in system with a "finger scanner." One of our administrative staff will walk you through the initial scan either before or after your first appointment. This will help us to eliminate some confusion where a patient may typically be referred to by a middle name or nickname, but our medical records in the computer have the true given name listed. Please know that this finger scan does not register a true finger print of the patient. It merely converts the lines of the finger to random numbers specific to that patient only. We will not have any access to any finger prints whatsoever.
